BLOG

A wish...

Morning. At the pool before everyone else. With my little shark and little fish making a wish list for new adventures... Of course, a child’s imagination has no limits. We’re wondering what we could do again, what we could add, which «aquatic» adventure would be most exciting, the place where the waves were most breath-taking, which morning swimming was the most magical one… While searching for the words… The silence of the pool is deafening. We looked at each other and realised that all our «aquatic» adventures, splashing in the shallow end, pouring water over the head from a beach toy bucket, diving, all the mischiefs, «falls» into the water, since she isn’t here. We erased the entire wish

Želja...

Jutro.

Blog guest: Ivana Ninkovic

Ivana Ninković, the best female swimmer of Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, reveals as a Swimming Dad #Blog guest, whether swimmers have “a home” or they are in the swimming pool all the time, even around holidays, and also tells us what she missed the most while swimming somewhere far away. Ivana graduated from Arizona State University with a BSE in Engineering Management, but still spends her free time training swimming. She would like to try and meet the qualification requirements for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. She has also swum the A level qualifying time for the World Championship in Barcelona and participated in the European Short Course Swimming Championship in Denmark. I

Kolik

Do swimmers have home or they are in the swimming pool all the time?

Almost everybody has most certainly had a hangover at some point… You wake up in the morning and for a moment you forget where you are and what you are doing there. Are these walls the walls of my room, my granny’s house, the weekend house, or is it a ceiling of a hotel room god knows where? There is no need to panic, you don’t suffer from the “confused wakefulness” disorder. It’s just that you’ve been “on wheels” for quite some time lately, in the air, from one side of the world to the other. While I was secretary general of the Serbian Swimming Federation, it happened to me that due to a very busy schedule of swimming competitions and numerous seminars, I was away from home for almost up t

Sacrifices: What future professional swimmers and parents should know?

In case you decide that your child, but also yourself, become a part of the professional sports from the very early age, you should be aware of all the benefits, but also sacrifices you would all need to make. This refers to the whole family. Your child won’t have a “regular” childhood like his/her friends, because in order to be able to achieve high swimming standards, he/she would need to have a very serious approach to it. Before making this decision, you need to ask your child and yourselves if you are both ready to “scarify” certain moments during his/her childhood, that most top athletes and their families need to give up on: 1. Summer holidays: While most of his/her friends will be pl

Odricanje: Šta budući vrhunski plivač i roditelj treba da znaju

Ukoliko donesete odluku da vaše dete vrlo rano, ali i vi budete deo profesionalnog sporta, vrhunskog plivanja, budite svesni svih benefita, ali i odricanja! Odricanja cele porodice.

The first 365 days

The idea and a great wish written on a piece of paper. There is worry and cautiousness in the head. Uncertainty and expectations in the air. Love in the water. And then, one day it «rose to the surface», and came into light of day. Exactly 365 days ago, the Swimming Dad blog officially «set sail». I couldn’t even imagine what the water I «jumped into» then could bring along. It was a moment of magic, full of uncertainty about what to expect on the other side. It’s been a year already. When I was starting this story, I wanted to motivate you to start swimming, to relax, to overcome your fears, to start loving water in a different way and enjoy it on your own, but also with your children, fami

Prvih 365 dana

Ideja i želja na papiru. Briga i opreznost u glavi. Neizvesnost i iščekivanje u vazduhu. Ljubav u vodi. A onda, jednog dana samo «izroni», ugleda svetlost dana.
