When you think about the first skills you want your child to learn in life, is swimming on that list? For me, baby swimming is more than just a class in the pool – it's a space where children learn how to breathe, balance, communicate, and feel safe in an unfamiliar environment. It's the first moment a parent has to let go, and a child begins to trust. That’s exactly what mom Ivana Korab discovered when she joined baby swimming classes with her two sons – and stayed part of our swimming story ever since.
Why baby swimming?
“Swimming is so important for a child’s development, especially in the early years. I wanted my kids to feel free in the water and to learn how to swim. We got Vlada by chance, but we quickly fell in love with his approach. He’s so great with kids. Mateo loves him so much that he keeps saying he wants to take him to grandma’s house to meet her," Ivana Korab says with a smile.

The first decision to introduce your baby to water comes from love – and trust. That’s why I believe parents shouldn’t just come to a “baby swimming class,” but for guidance, knowledge, security, and a smile. And kids feel that. From the very beginning.
On the other side, baby swimming with someone experienced, who understands the rhythm of each child and creates a space of safety and play, gives parents peace of mind – and kids the motivation to grow.
What does a baby swimming class look like from a mom’s perspective?
“When I see how much love and attention they give to the babies, it’s honestly something I recommend to everyone. I feel safe leaving my child there.”– Ivana Korab
Many parents come in worried. They leave calm. That’s why I always say: baby swimming is not just water activity – it’s an exercise in trust. You know when your child is in good hands. When they’re in a space that doesn't limit them but inspires them.
And I like to say: Water is the world’s biggest playground! But for a child to truly play safely in it – they must learn to swim.

Do changes happen?
Absolutely. And quickly. Parents see them even when the kids don’t.
“Mateo stopped having meltdowns when washing his hair. He loves water now and doesn’t panic when submerged. Noa started classes at 14 months, so for him – it all feels completely natural.”– Ivana Korab
That’s when you realize: water becomes an ally, not a fear.
In water, children let go.
Through play, they grow.
With rhythm, they learn.
Baby swimming helps both physical and emotional development: improving coordination, balance, lung capacity – but also patience, confidence, and social connection. What makes me truly happy is that we learn not to rush. Every child has their rhythm. We follow it – in and out of the water.

Favorite moment from a baby swimming class?
“Every class is something they look forward to. It’s full of smiles, and they proudly show me how they jump, balance on the board, and so much more. We always leave with the most beautiful memories.”– Ivana Korab
Kids don’t realize how big their small achievements are – but parents do. The first dive without fear, the jump into your arms, or singing along with the instructor… those are the moments that stay with you. Baby swimming is pure joy – but also a powerful way for your child to develop motor skills, rhythm, coordination, and most importantly – a lifelong love for the water.

How does baby swimming impact your family’s everyday life?
It’s not always easy to fit swimming into the family schedule – but when your kids enjoy it this much, you know it’s not a sacrifice… it’s an investment.
“It’s tough sometimes because the class ends around 4 PM and we have to go home through rush hour, but they enjoy it so much – it’s worth it.”– Ivana Korab
And that’s why I always say: swimming changes your rhythm – but gives your day structure.
After class, kids are calm, happy, and satisfied. They eat better, sleep better. And parents? They breathe easier, feeling proud of what their children achieved – in the water and beyond. These are the small wins that make a big difference in family life.

Would you recommend baby swimming to other parents?
“With Vlada, there’s no need to think twice. Just save us one time slot so we can keep coming!”– Ivana Korab
Spending time in water with your baby is precious – especially from the earliest months.
Yes, baby swim spots are in high demand.
And yes – there’s a reason so many parents return to swimming, and stay in it long after babyhood.
If you’re in Belgrade and want your child to build water confidence from day one – baby swimming in Aqua Termal Club (West 65), where I teach, is the perfect place to start.

Still hesitating?
If you’re waiting for the “right moment” – this is it.
If you think it’s too early – it’s not. My own kids started at 2 and 4 months.
If you’re worried your child will cry – maybe they will. But here’s what I can tell you from experience: if you, the parent, are calm and present in the water – your baby will be too.
Baby swimming is not a luxury – it’s a foundation for your child’s safety, health, and confidence.
And please, dear parents, know the difference between professional baby swimming and simple parent-baby water play. They are not the same thing – and I’ve written a detailed blog about that too.
Because life is better when you are swimming!
